Reach
What is REACH?
REACH stands for: Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals
The new European chemical legislation has been in force since 1 July 2007. Under this European Directive, chemicals must be registered, evaluated and authorized.
The Directive is intended to protect public health and the environment better and thereby strengthen trust in the chemical industry among consumers as well as in society as a whole. Instead of national authorities, the chemical industry itself is now responsible for the safe management of marketed chemicals.
At the same time, the Directive is intended to solidify the European chemical industry’s position on global markets and to improve substantially its competitiveness and innovative ability.
Whom does REACH affect?
All European manufacturers or importers must have their materials registered if they manufacture or import an annual volume of over 1 ton. Some materials are exempted from the duty of registration.
In the case of a preparation (e.g. polish), the preparation itself needs not be registered, but the contents of such preparations are subject to the duty of registration.
Downstream users (e.g. our customers) must ensure that the application (e.g. polishing) of the material is registered.
What does menzerna do?
- We will have materials registered of which we are importer within the meaning of the Directive.
- In close contact with our suppliers, we see to it that they pre-register their raw materials.
- We will register the raw materials for application in polish for commercial applications.
- We will register other applications in individual cases and in coordination with our customers.
